Arches National Park - Hiking, Biking & Canyoneering

Over one million visitors travel to Moab each year to visit Arches National Park, Utah. Spanning 119 square miles, the park is named for more than 2500 red sandstone arches carved by wind and water. The stunning landscape has been used as a backdrop for movies and attracts photographers in droves. Delicate Arch is the park's iconic symbol, but Double Arch, Skyline Arch and Balanced Rock are equally impressive. Sign up for the ranger-led hike to Fiery Furnace or take a scenic driving tour of the park along Arches Main Park Road. The 23.5-mile, round-trip drive to the Windows offers views of the largest arches.

  • What kind of facilities are available at the park?

Other than the Visitors Center and restrooms, there are no facilities at Arches. Food, gas, and other provisions should be purchased in Moab. Plan ahead and bring food, snacks, water, a hat and sunscreen. The Visitors Center and Devil’s Garden Campground have water available year-round and it is available seasonally at Devil’s Garden Trailhead. Many restaurants in Moab sell lunches to-go for visitors to take with them. The best picnic areas are Balanced Rock and Devils Garden. The Visitors Center at the entrance to the park also has a bookstore operated by Canyonlands Natural History Association. You can buy books about the park, maps, guidebooks and driving tours on CD.
  • Can I bring my pet with me to the Arches National Park?

Pets are permitted in the campground at overlooks and pullouts on scenic drive routes. They can be walked on roads or in parking lots, but they must be leashed. They are not permitted on hiking trails or in the visitor center. Pets should not be left unattended and they should not be left in a car when temperatures are above 68 degrees. The desert can be a dangerous place for pets when temperatures are high. Make sure all pet food is provided for.
