Corona Arch Trail: Hiking, Climbing & Scenic Views

Corona Arch and Bowtie Arch often get overlooked when outdoor enthusiasts head to nearby Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, but they are a photographer's heaven. Corona Arch Trail is an easy hike over a constructed trail and slickrock, but don't let that fool you because it does involve climbing ladders and using safety cables in some steep areas. Hike to an elevation of 440 feet and enjoy stunning views of Corona Arch, Bowtie Arch, Pinto Arch and the Colorado River. Corona Arch is 140-ft. long and 105-ft. high and looks free-standing. It is attached by Navajo sandstone. Climb the Moki steps on the east side of the arch for a loftier view. Allow two hours for hiking three miles round-trip. Perfect for families that want to show their kids some adventure.

  • Is there a parking lot near the trailhead? Is the trail easy to find?

The Corona Arch Trail is located 10 miles from US. 191 between mileposts 5 and 6. Park at the lot across from the Gold Bar Campgrounds. Head east on the trail and sign in at the Bureau of Land Management trail register. The trail is well marked and easy to find.
  • Would a child be able to hike the trail to the Corona Arch?

The trail is relatively easy and appropriate for healthy adults and children, but it does involve climbing ladders and using safety cables. The hike is 1.5 miles each way and the trail is well-maintained. It takes two to three hours to complete round trip and requires no special skills or gear. Just wear good hiking shoes with treads so you can walk over the slickrock and bring a hat and sunscreen since there is no shade. Be sure to have a liter of water for each person in your group. The hike is accessible year-round.
